The Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC)- Ethiopia has officially launched its customized entrepreneurship training for women on 25 July 2019 with the presence of His excellency Ato Mesfin Assefa, State Minister of Ministry of Urban Development and Construction, Mr. Ahmed Al Badawai, Head of Political Economic and Media Affairs, United Arab Emirates Embassy in Ethiopia, Ato Selashe Tadesse, Director of Women Mobilization from Ministry of Women, Youth and Children, and Dr. Hassen Hussein, Chief Executive Officer of EDC, UNDP Country Office Ethiopia, and distinguished guests.
Opening remark was given by Dr. Hassen Hussein following speeches by His excellency Ato Mesfin Assefa and Mr. Ahmed Albadawi. His Excellency Ato Mesfin Assefa, noted the importance of entrepreneurship as an engine for economic growth, creating job opportunities and sustainable development. He called on the women to play a leading role in the new environment in the country, as fully empowered women are essential for prosperous, equitable and inclusive society. He also recognized the support of Ethiopia’s key partners such as the UAE, in the country’s efforts for developing entrepreneurship. Mr. Ahmed Al Badawai said that the UAE Government believes in the power of women and the role they can play in society and it has seen the outcome of engaging and empowering women in the country’s development.
The training is aimed to empower women entrepreneurs with no business experience by providing tailored entrepreneurship, leadership and business skill development training. The training will be conducted for five consecutive days and it is expected to benefit three hundred females. The United Arab Emirates Embassy in Ethiopia is the program sponsor.
